Sketchbook Assignment: Drawing Objects from Life

NEW Sketchbook Assignment!

I am enjoying watching all of you develop different types of patterns in class, but while you are using your creativity, I don't want you to stop developing the drawing-from-observation skills you have developed the past few weeks. Below is the new sketchbook assignment that will strengthen those skills:

Sketchbook Assignment: Drawing Objects from Life

We are currently exploring the concept of value (the lightness or darkness of a color) in class. Continue developing your ability to draw from observation by doing 2 full-page drawings in your sketchbook of an object or an arrangement of objects. Shade them using a full range of values (that means light, medium, and very dark values).

Things to remember while drawing:
1.     Draw a ½ inch border around the edges of your page before beginning
2.     Draw by looking at an actual 3D object.
a.    DO NOT draw from a photograph or your imagination.
b.    I will know.
3.     Shade objects fully with lights, mediums, and darks. I should believe I could shrink myself and go walk around in your drawing.
4.     Do not neglect proportions. Use the citing technique to figure out size relationships.

Happy Sketchbooking!

Greetings Art Explorers!

If you are reading this, you are probably in one of Ms. Rice's Art 1 classes at Overton High School. This year, those classes are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd period. The purpose of this blog is to keep up with your sketchbook homework and what we are doing in class.

Tata for now!
